Joined to Lewis, Harris is not a separate island, though it is often referred to as the Isle of Harris. It is divided by the narrow isthmus at Tarbet into two very distinct parts, North Harris and South Harris.

The north is mountainous with the highest hills in the Western Isles. They offer some excellent hill walking with the Clisham circuit being particularly rewarding.

South Harris is less wild with stunning beaches at Luskentyre and Seilibost. Just off shore is the island of Taransay. It featured in the BBC documentary ‘Castaway’. Further down the coast from here is the friendly 9 hole Harris Golf Club.

At Rodel on the southern tip of Harris is the medieval church of St Clement c 1520. A burial place of the Macleods it has the superbly carved tomb of Alasdair Crotach ,8th Chief of Clan Macleod.

Both North and South Harris have excellent fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout.
