This long stalled cairn, protected by a modern roof, is divided into three compartments. The bones of 29 people were found here, with skulls carefully arranged beside the wall. Among animal remains were the bones of some 36 deer.

The finest megalithic tomb in the British Isles, built in Neolithic times before 2700 BC. Runic inscriptions tell of how it was plundered by the Vikings.

This outstanding tomb stands on Els Ness peninsula, a site of many burial mounds and smaller cairns. Quoyness has a splendid central chamber with six side cells, and a low entrance passage.
