Rebuilt in the 16th century for James VI, the palace was formerly a guest house of the monastery. Birthplace of Charles I.

October to March: Monday – Wednesday and Saturdays 9.30am, last entry 4.00pm (closes at 4.30pm) Thursdays 9.30am, last entry 12.00pm (closes at 12.30pm), Sundays 2.00pm - 4.30pm. Closed Fridays. Abbey Church closed October - April.

The refectory floor, kitchen area and lower floor of the palace together with the upper floor and stone display in the gatehouse are not suitable for visitors using wheelchairs and three steps lead to the shop.
