For the visitor wishing to see tangible evidence of the early medieval period in Scotland (cAD400 - 1000), a real challenge waits. The craggy rock of Dunadd in Argyll was an important stronghold of the Dalriadic kings of Argyll from the late 5th century. The footprint and other carvings on its summit may be linked to the inauguration ceremony of these predecessors of the kings of Scotland.
